In the workplace there is a great divide when it comes to
selecting burrito venue. But for me there is always a clear winner.
Perhaps it is behavioral conditioning from my Alma Mater, Texas A&M—or perhaps it
is the superior taste and general quality and selection of the ingredients that
sets Freebirds apart from other lesser burrito joints. But given a choice,
Freebirds always gets my vote.
There have been some recent disappointments such as the
pandering to people with Chipotleian tendencies by offering “Cilantro Lime”
rice as a menu option. To the purist, it just throws you off your game to be
asked what kind of rice you would like. But all is forgiven once you bite into
a burrito that is second to none.
Be sure to get a Fanatics card—buy 10 get one free. Or
if you are there with me, I’d be more than happy to take your burrito credit on
my card.
Below is the Monster chicken burrito on a cayenne tortilla if
you have a substantial appetite. For those lower on the food chain, there are also
the Freebird (regular) and Hybird (small) options. Or if you’re really up to a
digestive challenge, the Super Monster awaits you. Don’t forget the Death Sauce

Yes, perhaps there are other burrito restaurants closer to your place of work that are more convenient. But does saving a 10
minute drive really justify subjecting your taste buds to anything less than the
best?

Great divide.. Sure. My theory on why it exists at all is that there's something in the water at college station that causes severe burrito blindness. :-)
ReplyDeleteI like freebird's burritos, and I did not drink college station water. On the other hand, who knows what is locked deep inside puertorrican water.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair.. I like the burritos at Freebirds too. I just don't think they're better than at Chipotle.
ReplyDeleteIt has often been said that there is something in the water in College Station since many can not understand our true devotion to our school. However, I will say that while I was in College Station for 5 years I was not a huge fan of Freebirds. It was only once I tasted the obvious inferiority of Chipotle and others that I realized the true beauty that is a Freebirds burrito. Freebirds steak is far superior to that of Chipotle. Then add on the variety in totillas and additional toppings and you can clearly recognize its superiority.
ReplyDeleteWhile I appreciate your passion and conviction, we're just going to have to agree to disagree. Even though I am not one of the Chipotleian school of thought, I still find the seasoning that Freebirds uses for the ingredients a little underwhelming. I did try the cayenne tortilla and some medium heat sauce to wake it up but it was still not making my taste buds jump in joy. It was more of a jolt of hope, followed by an "it's just lunch” sort of deflated enthusiasm that follows the meals that are not there for savoring but just for removing hunger. Next time, I am going to have you order for me…maybe I just don’t have down the art of ordering a burrito properly.
